Nat’l women’s football selections tourney set

ALL eyes are now on the staging here at Panaad of the 2010 National Women’s Football Selections Tournament slated to reel off this Saturday, April 24-28 featuring six teams in both the Under 19 and Under 14 categories.

The tournament is hosted by the Executive Village Football Club headed by businessman Junie Lizares in cooperation with the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) headed by Mari Martinez.

The main objective of the event is to select members of the RP teams in both divisions that will see action in two different international competitions within the year, said Lizares during a press conference last week.

The traditional team managers meeting is scheduled Friday at 6:00 p.m. at Luxur Place’s Tapas Room, where team representatives will discuss the nature of the competition and the tournament schedule with tournament officials, said former Negros Occidental Football Association (NOFA) deputy general secretary Warren Concepcion who mentors the host Negros Occidental Under 19 squad.

Three matches are scheduled Saturday at Panaad immediately following brief opening ceremonies.

At 2:00 p.m. it will be an Under 19 matchup between Iloilo and Davao followed by the U14 match between Manila and host Negros Occidental scheduled at 3:30 p.m.

The day’s final match will be a U19 clash between host Negros Occidental A and Negros Oriental Football Association (Norfa) scheduled at 6:00 p.m.

On Sunday, April 25 at 8:00 a.m. there will be a skills competition among U14 players as a side event while at 2:00 p.m. the competition resumes with the U19 matchup between Negros Occidental A and Negros Occidental B.

This will be followed by the U14 clash featuring Davao against Manila at 4:00 p.m. while the day’s final match will be a U19 encounter between Davao and Norfa at 6:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, the host Negros Occidental squad, sponsored by O Hotel, Luxur Place and Zagu, is composed of the following: (Goal-keepers) Corinth Chua, Nicole Jalandoni; (Defenders) Jenaralyn “Biggy” Abuan, Therese Gail “Pangging” Silava, Ellyca Lacson, Mona Rose Remigio, Arlyn Mae Valero, Leia Molinas, and Pamela Son; (Midfielders) Aina Martin, Jaemarie “Wayan” Abuan, Pearl Aguilar, Carmela Lizares, Ritz Lazarito, Daniela Trompeta. Meryll Ledesma, and Jean Brigette Kadil; (Strikers) Chermaine Guancia, Angel Metillo, Natasha De Asis, Sean Nicole Adenix and Alesa Dolino; Head Coach - Warren Concepcion; Assistant Coaches: Paul Espinosa, Rinelle De Oca and Henry Patiño; and Team Managers - Mrs. Menchu Lacson and Mr. Louis Martin.

The April 24-28 tournament at Panaad is open for the public to watch, organizers said.
