Cebu Football - DBTC blanks ANS to win secondary football crown

Football action highlighted the penultimate day of the Cebu City Olympics as Unit 9’s Abellana National School (ANS) failed to capitalize on its controversial semifinal win, losing to Don Bosco Technological Center (DBTC), 0-2, in the secondary finals yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.

ANS was responsible of dethroning three-time champions Paref Springdale with a 5-4 squeaker in the semifinals last Friday.

But Paref Springdale filed a complaint against the officiating crew of the semifinal match, saying there was bad and biased officiating.

Paref demanded for a rematch but none was given. ANS went on to face the DBTC booters, who beat Blessed John Seminary in the semifinals.

Don Bosco banked on goals by Miguel Caindec (88th minute) and Froilan Gellon (98th) to chalk up the victory and secure a seat to the Central Visayas Regional Athletics Association (CVIRAA) meet this coming November in Dumaguete.

ANS, meanwhile, took the loss well. "At least we did not (file a) protest," said ANS head coach Francis Ramirez.

Ramirez said they will now focus on their stint in the Aboitiz Football tournament, where they are still unbeaten.
