P100T bounty for men's open champ

CEBU, Philippines - The 12th edition of the Cebu Amateur Football Club (CAFC)-organized National Inter-Club Football Cup is expected to draw the strongest teams from all over the country after the organizers decided to increase the cash prizes at stake in the nine-day event set from May 19 to 27 at the University of San Carlos-Technological Center field in Brgy. Talamban, this city.

From the P40,000 bounty, the champion in the men's open division will now pocket P100,000, while the top finisher in the 40-above class will get P20,000 or double from last year's purse.

“Ingon man gud ang mga teams from outside Cebu nga gasto ang ila pag-anhi dinhi unya gamay ra ang cash prize. Di daw sila kabawi sa ilang gasto," said CAFC president Glenn Quisido in explaining why they were forced to increase the cash prizes.

The winners in the age-group categories will also have something to look forward to because aside from trophies and medals, they will also receive soccer balls.

With this development, CAFC is confident that some of the country's top teams will be coming over including some clubs seeing action in the United Football League (UFL).

Among the teams that have already sent feelers to join the tournament are from Davao, Manila, Bacolod and Iloilo. (FREEMAN)
