Football field renovation on hold

By

THE MOVE to turn the historic Rizal Memorial Football Stadium field into an all-weather artificial pitch is on hold.
The Philippine Sports Commission and Philippine Football Federation had signed a memorandum of agreement last month for the implementation of the project, but the thorny issue of who gets to control and manage the field is now being blamed as the reason for the impasse.

Philippine Sports Commission chair Richie Garcia yesterday said the government sports agency can’t relinquish control of the stadium as it remains public property.

The control and management of the facility, however, are among the provisions of the International Football Federation (Fifa) in granting the PFF’s proposal for Fifa Goal Project, which is worth $500,000.
“We cannot agree to the contract because Rizal Memorial is a public place and it is government property,” Garcia told the Inquirer. “We cannot just relinquish control (of the facility).”

The MOA signed by the PSC and the PFF, which would cover the next 25 years, actually included a profit-sharing scheme.
The PFF will get 60 percent and the PSC 40 percent from the gate receipts of all of the federation’s events held at the facility such as official matches and tuneup games of the national teams.

  5. Government property but to be rented and cared for by PFF. 60% goes to PFF which is by the way in the Philippines and a federation for our own Philippine football and 40% for PSC for doing nothing at all except maybe ask for extra money.
Hello PSC Pinoy din ang gagamit nyan hindi Russian, hindi Malaysian at kung sino pang hindi Pilipino.
Benepisyo ba gusto nyo for us the people. We are happy because inaayos ang stadium na sa matagal na panahon ay di nyo na-improve. Since 1991 na huli ako pumunta for the SEA games.

  7. When any public project involving government parasites is completed properly, efficiently and free from corruption you can celebrate that better than winning the Suzuki Cup.

  9. Ulol itong Richie GArcia na 'to. Pumirma ng MOA so PFF can obtain FIFA funding then now they're saying they can't relinquish control. What utter B.S.! That's why just like so many things in this country umiiral and kabulokan sa sports.

  10. Experienced and authentic contractors will not only specialize in the construction process but even offer installation services and maintenance assistance. Several professional contractors have their personal websites carrying elaborate information on football ground construction and things related to it.
