Philippines up 3 to number 147 , the highest ranking ever in FIFA ranking !
They got 11 extra ranking points and have now 178 ranking points
Thanks to winning friendly against Singapore and Peace Cup matches , but also that FIFA did not count the Cambodia draw and Laos loss Philippines climbed to number 147 in today`s October ranking.

Are those the lowest rankings for Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore?

ReplyDeleteWho cares to these rankings. In Europe and South America FIFA rankings are less important. Nobody will mention in a live broadcast nor write in paper. Whats important is all countries (except the Phils. i guess) support and love their National team and the team will always do their best to win. Supporters are always there for the team. Just look at Spain and the Spaniards - they always got that quality of play and support. You don't need to know where they rank in the world.
ReplyDeleteThat is easy to say if you come from a developed football nation. I, also think the same way having lived for such a long time abroad but it has also been my experience that fans from all over the world whether in forums or in conversation, would eventually find ways to agree or disagree with their country's position in the FIFA rankings. If they happen to going up in the rankings to a highly ranked position, they would start pointing out how much improved their country have been lately. If they start dropping, they start calling for a change in management at both their federation or within the national team itself. Of course, for most developed football countries, it is how they do in the World Cup that ultimately determines their perception in how they rank in the football world but for most of the small(in football terms) underdeveloped countries, the FIFA is a valid criteria among others, that they can use to gauge how they do against their neighbors and other teams. So in retrospect, it is my opinion those who try to diminish the importance of such rankings feel that those rankings are beneath them because they consider themselves too good for them yet are the first to complain when their countries are in their opinion treated unfairly in such rankings. I think the better compromise would be to consider the FIFA and ELO rankings as just one of the criteria to gauge the strength of each football nation and that we should also consider other factors like, the performance of each team in tournaments and the strength of their league, as just as important.
ReplyDeleteAs for the supporters, considering Filipinos have only rediscovered their passion for the sport 2 years ago, I think they are doing quite well in building a fanbase that will eventually equal those found in other countries that have had this tradition for decades.

We're 3rd in Asean and I believe we can go higher. thailand is no.1. I lived there for 3 years several years ago and they live and eat soccer(as it was called before) everyday. that's were I learned to play and love the sport. They have the king's Cup every year and it helps a lot in developing the sport and I believe that our own UFL will someday bring out the best in our football players. Go Philiipine Football!!!!
