Azkals join Aboitiz Cup opening ceremony

THE 15th Aboitiz Football Cup will have a grand opening ceremony today at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Mandaue with members of the Philippine men’s football team expected to join the crowd in a fiesta-themed celebration.
The opening will start with the parade of the teams and a short program, which will have speeches from top executives of the Aboitiz Group of Companies and the members of the Cebu Football Association (CFA) led by its president Ricky Dakay.
Philippine men’s team manager Dan Palami will also give a short message.
The national team players will then join the crowd in the games, which will have as prize tickets for the Philippines vs. Singapore game on Nov. 15.

According to a list provided by the CFA, the members of the Azkals that will be coming over for the Nov. 15 match are Marwin and Marvin Angeles, Ian Araneta, Chieffy Caligdong, Joshua Beloya, Jason Sabio, Jeffrey Christiaens, Jason de Jong, Ray Jonsson, Rob Gier, Andres Crisanto Gonzales, Christopher Greatwich, Roel Gener, Nestorio Margarse, Misagh Bahadoran, Carlos Alberto Martinez de Murga, Eduard Sacapano, Jose Paolo Pascual, Denis Wolf, Patrick Reichelt, Mathew Uy, Demitrius Irving Omphroy, James Joseph and Philip James Younghusband and Juan Luis Guirado.
Meanwhile, 123 teams were able to pay their registration fee for the Aboitiz Cup. According to the CFA, 155 teams showed interest but teams will only be included in the final count after payment.
The CFA also confirmed that it will drop the Girls 12, Girls 14, Boys 19 and Ladies Open divisions as they failed to meet the minimum number of teams for the competition.
The final deadline for payment is on Nov. 16 as games will begin on the following day.
The tournament is expected to run until April and the winner of the men’s open, which currently has 15 teams, will represent Cebu in the Smart Club Championships.
