QC United leaves for Smart Club elims

Wednesday, November 21, 2012
CEBU Queen City United has its hopes high in the Smart Club Regional Qualifiers set to open tomorrow in San Carlos City.
The team will leave today and will try to get a feel of the pitch before the games begin on Friday.
The long overdue tournament over the weekend is now down to only three teams —Cebu, Bacolod and Leyte—after Iloilo and Dumaguete withrew. It will follow the league-type format.
Despite the absence of the two teams, coach Mario Ceniza said they will not underestimate the other teams.
Leyte Football Association (LFA) is a relatively new team and Ceniza said they are not familiar with the players. On the other hand, Negros Occidental Football Assoication (Nofa) is a known powerhouse in Visayas football.
Unlike Nofa, which has been joining tournaments, QCU’s preparation has been limited to regular practices and tune-up games with local teams.
The last tournaments the team joined were the Aboitiz Cup and the United Football League.
“Hopefully, the boys will perform as expected, as majority of the United Football League players have been retained in the lineup,” said head coach Mario Ceniza.
QCU has a 21-man lineup and has a Nigerian central forward and Japanese midfielder.
Junard Aguilar, Lehmar Baunsit and Dan Villarico are also expected to carry the team in the qualifying tournament, where the top two will advance to the round-of-16.
