Cebu City will be hosting the country’s debut in the 2013 Asian Football Confederation President’s Cup this May which will feature United Football League champion Global FC.
The President’s Cup is an annual tournament among champion clubs from the emerging football nations in Asia. Global will be the Philippines’ first representative in the competition.
“Barring unforeseen extraordinary event, therefore, Cebu City Sports (Center) will be the venue of the qualifiers,” Philippine Football Federation general secretary Ed Gastanes told InterAKTV.
The Cebu City Sports Center last hosted a major event when the Azkals played Singapore in a friendly draw before a jampacked crowd last year.
Global was drawn alongside two-time champion Dordoi Bishkek of Kyrgyzstan, Khan Research Laboratories or KRL FC of Pakistan and Yeedzin FC of Bhutan in Group B of the tournament, which is slated from May 8 to May 12.
The top two teams from the group will earn a slot to the President’s Cup proper in September.
