Teen Azkals bow to Singapore

The Philippine national Under-19 football team yielded its second straight match after falling to Singapore, 3-1, in the ASEAN Football Federation U-19 Championship on Wednesday at the Gelora Delta Sidoarjo Olympic Stadium in Indonesia.
The Teen Azkals stared at a 2-nil halftime deficit after Mahathir Azeman and skipper Jeffery Adam Lightfoot of Singapore scored at the 29th and 44th minutes.
The Singaporeans continued their dominance when Muhammad Hazim Faiz Hassan made a goal at the 74th minute. The Teen Azkals avoided a goalless result after Nikko Benedicto scored in injury time.
The Teen Azkals, who are now at the bottom of Group A, suffered a 3-1 loss to Laos in the tournament opener last Monday. Only the top two teams from the bracket will advance to the knockout stages to battle the best two squads from Group B, which features Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and host Indonesia.
The Filipinos will next take on Cambodia on Sunday and Timor Leste next Tuesday to wrap up the group stages.
