Loyola Meralco coach says slumping UFL needs to regain the Spark against Kaya FC

By Karlo Sacamos

A WEARY Loyola Meralco seeks to get back on the winning track as it clashes with Kaya FC in a marquee matchup in the United Football League on Tuesday at the Emperador Stadium.
It only took two straight disappointing results — a 1-2 loss against Green Archers United and a 1-1 draw against Stallion FC — for the Sparks to lose not just their grip on the top spot in the nine-team standings, but also their aura of invincibility.
With the long minutes of their starters seemingly taking its toll, the men in orange try to dig deep and find a way to prevail in another stern test for their third-running side.
“We just really need to rest and refresh so that we could come in with a different mentality,” Sparks coach Vince Santos said after the stalemate against the Stallions last Thursday.
Not only are they trying to regain the lead they surrendered to streaking Global FC, but the Sparks are also trying to avoid Kaya from catching up.
The Sparks are just ahead of Kaya by three points and the result of their 7:30 p.m. second-round encounter will have a huge impact on the title race.
Kaya, fresh from a 4-2 win over Socceroo, halted Loyola’s seven-game winning run in the first round when it held the high-scoring Sparks to a goalless draw last February 18.
The fifth-running Archers hope to sustain their resurgence as they take on Pachanga earlier at 5:15 p.m.
