Global coach Manson says 'standard shouldn't drop' for UFL leaders

By Karlo Sacamos

A STREAKING Global FC tries to keep its pedal to the metal when it tangles with Stallion FC in the United Football League on Thursday night at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig.
Oozing with confidence since tweaking its lineup last month, the powerhouse squad seeks to tighten its grip of the top spot as it faces the defending champions at 7:30 p.m.
Global currently has 37 points, four clear at the top.
Since Kaya FC held them scoreless in a loss last February, the men in yellow and blue have been on an offensive tear, winning five straight games with an average of 6.2 goals scored.
And the arrival of standouts Curt Dizon, Daisuke Sato, German Rodriguez, and Raul Martinez has a lot do with that, further making the Azkals-loaded side a well-oiled machine that has overtaken Loyola Meralco.
“We’re in a place where we have a number of high-quality players in a number of positions and they need to stay hungry,” Global coach Leigh Manson said. “The standard should not drop.”
Global dumped Stallion, 5-1, in the first round, but is careful not to take for granted a dangerous side that is trying to play the spoiler’s role to help league-leader’s closest pursuers Kaya and the Sparks to catch up.
“If you take them lightly, they will hurt you. It’s not secret,” Manson said of the Stallions, who held high-scoring Loyola to a 1-1 draw last time.
Philippine Army, running sixth in the nine-team standings, takes on relegation-threatened Pasargad earlier at 5:15 p.m.
