Panaad Stadium gets facelift for AFC event

THREE weeks before the AFC President’s Cup officially kicks off in Bacolod City, the Negros Occidental-owned Panaad Park and Stadium is undergoing renovation and facelift to meet the requirements set by the Asean Football Confederation (AFC).
Nicolas Golez, chairman of Local Organizing Committee (LOC), said he has given the contractor 10 to 15 days to finish the needed repairs, rehabilitation and construction of required facilities under the AFC guidelines before the May 6 to 10 event.
“We have to work on the construction of two more dressing rooms with showers at the Panaad Stadium because we only have two. AFC requires at least four,” Golez said.
“We are also watering our pitch for the grass to grow and make it green in time for the President’s Cup. We are also maintaining our practice venues at the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos and the Ceres-La Salle FC Mandalagan field,” he added.
As to the billeting of AFC officials and teams, Golez said everything is doing well. “We have five hotels primarily assigned for this event, namely: L’ Fisher Hotel Bacolod, Planta Centro Bacolod Hotel & Residences, Luxur Place, Sugarland Hotel, and O Hotel.
Ceres – La Salle FC, which will represent the country, is in Group B along with some of the strongest teams in the tournament namely: FC HTTU of Turkmenistan, Tatung Company of Chinese Taipei and Rimyongsu Club of the People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea). (HGD)
