Patrick Deyto's late save on contentious Malaysia penalty rescues Azkals in Cebu stalemate

By Karlo Sacamos

CEBU CITY - The Philippine men's football team settled for another goalless draw against Malaysia, but still left fans at the Cebu City Sports Center screaming in suspense on Sunday night.
In a match that served as a sendoff for the team bound for the Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup next month, the Azkals failed to figure out the puzzle that is the Malaysians anew. It was the fourth straight stalemate between the two countries in the last four years.
Patrick Deyto sparkled as the last line of defense, denying several shots, including a contentious penalty awarded late to Malaysia that averted what would've been a sorry loss for a Filipino side that continued to display its improved passing game under coach Thomas Dooley.
Nate Burkey provided the spark off the bench, conjuring three chances, the last just a bit over the bar.
The Azkals will have one last training camp in Bahrain before the Challenge Cup.
