UFL selection gives Perth Glory FC early scare before bowing in All-Star weekend

THE United Football League All-Stars gave Perth Glory FC an early scare before surrendering a 2-1 decision in front of a sizeable Saturday crowd at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

The Philippine side gained the early lead, but allowed the top Australian club to come back even before the end of the first half to secure the result in the match that capped off the league’s mid-tournament showcase.
Kaya FC striker Louis Clark unlocked the Perth Glory defense 13 minutes into the match, before the visitors equalized nine minutes later courtesy of Chris Harold then took the lead thanks to Andy Keogh’s conversion just moments before the referee blew his whistle that signaled intermission.
“The (scoreline) doesn’t do our players enough justice because in the first half, on another day we could have been four-one up at the half,” UFL All-Stars coach Simon McMenemy said. “But overall I'm happy and pleased with the boys. They were tested today. Everybody's happy and everybody wins.”
Perth Glory coach Kenny Lowe attested to how tough the Philippine selection was.
“I thought they (UFL All-Stars) did well they worked ever so hard,” the British coach said. “We controlled the game. We controlled the tempo, but they play a decent brand of football. And it was enjoyable match to watch.”
The match formed part of the offseason preparation of Perth Glory, which settled for a scoreless draw against Global FC on Wednesday.
The Australian side finishes its Philippine tour with a friendly against the Azkals on Tuesday in Vigan.
The UFL Rest of the World All-Stars blanked the UFL Philippines All-Stars, 3-0, in the curtain-raiser of the All-Star weekend.
Stephen Appiah of Nomads and Global players Arthur Kouassi and Milad Behgandom found the back of the net for the foreign side coached by Global goalkeeping coach Jorge Kuriyama.
